5K Tues 14th May and Tues 11th June
Children's fun runs Tues 21st May and Tues 25th June
25th June 2013 - 800+ children take part in the fun runs.
There were lots of cheerful faces on the promenade as the sun shone down on the Children's fun runs, but there were also a few headteachers with their eyes on the school prizes.
Brynymor had a big increase on the number of entries for tonight's races as they added well over 40 more runners to last month's attendance.
They win the top prize (£400), with Mayals 2nd (£300), Oystermouth 3rd (£200) and Sketty 4th (£100).
All winning headteachers will receive their cheques later this week.
Photos from the Children's races aswell as Results and Photos from the 5K held on 11th June can be found here.
Both the 5K and the Children's fun runs have become very popular, so we are sticking with the same format as last year with each having their own event day. This year we will be holding the 5K races on the second Tuesday of the month and the Children's fun runs on the third or fourth. By separating the races, we have been able to ease parking and reduce queues at registration.
5k Races will be held at 7pm on Tues 14th May and Tues 11th June.
Entry form available here.
Register in advance for both races for £12 (£10 for club members!).
NB. Please be aware that EVERYONE will be charged £8 on the night. Club member discount only applies to pre-entries.
Please remember this race is not for profit... your entry fee meant that last year we could donate £1200 to local primary schools as well as £500 to Welsh Athletics and £250 to Swansea Harriers.
We are also offering two club competitions. See below for details on how to win £250.
Under 15 1 mile race will be held at 6:30pm on Tues 14th May and Tues 11th June.
Register on the night for £2 and receive a medal and a goody bag.
Children's fun runs will be held at 6pm on Tues 21st May and Tues 25th June.
Register on the night for £1.50 and receive a medal and a goody bag.
So you want to enter the Swansea Bay 5K series...
Races are held each summer along the picturesque seafront walkway towards Mumbles. The 5K races take place on the second Tuesday of the month in May and June. The first race this year is on May 14th. We also hold a 1 mile challenge for Under 15s that starts at 6:30pm just before the main race at 7pm. On the third or fourth Tuesday of the month we have a mixture of races for the under 12s starting at 6pm.
The 5K series attracts all sorts from first time racers to seasoned veterans. Everyone is made to feel welcome, so there is no excuse not to come and join us. If you're looking to get started then don't worry the course is flat and fast. Have a look at the basic training tips in our info section and don't forget to enjoy yourself. If you're a seasoned pro then you always have last year's time to beat (course record is by Simon Jones - 14min 40sec). If you beat the course record then you win £100!
Race winners will receive vouchers from Up and Running
Pre-register by 1st May to save yourself some money. And don't forget to stick around post-race as you can exchange your 5K race number for a drink and snack courtesy of the Junction Cafe Bar.
There is the 1 Mile challenge for the under 15s. Entry is £2 and the race starts at 6:30pm. The first 3 boys and girls win a boardrider pass for the LC as well as their goody bag.
Dedicated day for Children Fun Runs!
New for this year are our club competitions. As we are a race for all abilities we are offering two prizes, one for the club who can get the most runners to enter and the other for the quickest club.
We will take the fastest three runners from each club, for each race, giving 6 qualified running positions.
Primary School Challenge
This year we will be donating money to the 4 primary schools who get the most children to enter both day's fun runs.
The school with the highest total over both races will receive £400, the second £300, the third £200 and the fourth £100.
Last year Mayals, Bishopston, Oystermouth and Parkland schools won. We also had a new prize for the June race - best attendance award based on % of pupils to school size, which was won by Llwynderw(£200). Photo shows Imogen Knill, Maren Williams, Katie Thomas, Marni Thomson & Isabella Cain of Bishopston Primary School showing off their medals and winning cheque to Grant Howells of the 5K team and Gareth Widlake their Headteacher.
